Religious fundamentalists think that without a rule book from god (their particular god, mind you) there is no basis for morality. Well brother, if the only reason you won’t cheat on your wife is because a book says you can’t, I feel sorry for your wife.
Lower level consciousness, like young children, needs external reward/punishment systems to behave. The goal however, of growing up, or enlightenment, or “sanctification” is to mature and transcend rules altogether by living a life of self-transcendent love.
Love always goes beyond the rules, past the boundary markers. Love always does more, gives more, and IS more, than any static religious obedience could ever accomplish, offer, or be.
